Biogas sector in Poland
Around 300 biogas plants produce electricity in Poland from agriculture, sludge and landfill sectors. The first Polish agriculture biogas plant was built in 2005 but the agriculture sector has dynamically developed since 2010, when several national programs and relevant investment supports emerged to support biogas from agriculture. Since 2010, around 16 MW of new capacity has been installed yearly in the agricultural biogas sector. Poland has large resources of agricultural and agro-industrial feedstocks (manure, fruit and vegetables residues, breweries, sugar factories distilleries, etc.) and authorizes energy crops (maize silage represents around 20% of total agricultural feedstocks). Therefore, the sector is expected to strongly grow even more in a near future.
